Droppings

Sorry not the nicest of pictures but I'm hoping someone can identify the animal which left this deposit in my garden. It's very different from the stoat droppings we found. This is thick and about ¾ of an inch in length. Not sure about the smell - earthy maybe and it contained a number of beetle elytra.
I'm thinking it could be a badger but I believe they usually dig small pits in the ground, this was on the path.
